Last week we were on holiday in Bude, Cornwall. It was a family holiday, but I took the opportunity to poke around on the Coast Path in both directions to get a bit of a feel for what’s coming on Day 4/5 of my adventure.

We arrived on Saturday, and on Sunday I did an absolutely fantastic 10 mile run from the cottage at Wooda, down to Northcott Mouth and across the valleys to Lower Sharpnose Point and the dishes at GCHQ Bude.

The route is hilly, poles came in very handy on the way back, but the views were superb.

We spent a fair chunk of time at Crooklets Beach, and when the tide was out you could see the dishes and the path running over the hills.

I went off in the other direction on one of the days, South towards Widemouth. The terrain is undulating but easier than running North, and at least when I get to GCHQ I know the path the whole way through to Widemouth and can relax about navigation etc.

On our last full day we went to Tintagel. What an amazing place!

The weather was a bit grey in the morning but that added to the atmosphere. The Coast Path snakes away to the north over some quite lumpy headlands.

And to the south, the land just keeps going on and on to the horizon.

My last run was a shorter version of the first, getting just past Sandymouth.

And on the last evening, we headed to Duckpool with fish and chips to soak up the atmosphere as the sun went down.
